Right from the start, let me nail my colours firmly to the mast. I am, have been for over 50 years, and of course always will be, a Leicester City fan. I mention this, not because I intend to bang on about my team, but because I hope that you will appreciate that over my sporting lifetime I have experienced the highs and lows of football, from the ecstasy of winning the Premier League to the despair of relegation.
As such, I do feel reasonably qualified to share with you my rambling thoughts on our beautiful game. In fact, considering that at my age, I shouldn’t feel the need to dilute my opinions with false modesty, I like to think of myself as a football expert. I hope that doesn’t sound too big-headed? I’m maybe not up there with the Gary Nevilles of this world, but I do believe I could give some of these so-called pundits a run for their money.
My intention is to share with you my thoughts on things sporting, serious and not-so-serious, mainly football-related but not exclusively. I hope you will find them interesting at the very least, but also occasionally thought-provoking and even possibly amusing. My immediate family are not into sport at all, and so I need this outlet to vent my observations at those times when I’m not down the pub with a pint in my hand. Please feel free to tell me what a fool I am, or, if you think I may be on to something, let’s change the world [or at least the offside law].
