1. England win.
A feeling of relief at the final whistle, but we were almost left feeling deflated.
We totally deserved to win against a poor team who benefited from bad refereeing decisions on penalty area incidents. It allowed Tunisia to defend throughout the second half, in which I could have played in goal for England, such was its one-sided nature. A couple of players failed to impress and there ought to be one or two changes for the Panama game. Sterling was particularly ineffective, and his abject failure to make good contact on the offside incident in the first half was scary. Rashford or Vardy, please, Gareth.
2. Woe for Low
I was truly staggered to watch world-cup winning coach Joachim Low being totally outplayed tactically by his Mexican counterpart. The German right back Kimmich loves to get forward as the right-back in a back four, but if he expects Mesut Ozil to cover for him, that’s not going to happen, and the Mexican attack had a field day. I lost count of the number of times Mexico counter-attacked at speed with numerical advantage, as Ozil and his mates Muller and Khedira appeared to be running through treacle. By the time Germany had the better of the game as Mexico tired, they could easily have been four down. I have to say, I really enjoyed watching that one.
3. Ronaldo does it again
A brilliant individual performance from Cristiano Ronaldo against Spain. For more on Mr Portugal please feel free to read my post ‘Simply the Best’.
4. Get the ladies involved
I know that women’s football is on the up, and the managers in the Brazil v Switzerland game did their bit by choosing Miranda, Alisson and Schär. Well done!
